1. Do you have a complete set of instructions to help me use your service? If you are installing HotDocs/forms from Capform for the first time, please use the instructions below. * We recommend you backup all data before beginning the installation procedure. However, providing you have been saving your HotDocs data to the default directories, you should not lose any of your saved data.- Install HotDocs 2005
- Download HotDocs 2005 Player to your desktop.
- Go to your desktop and double click on HDPlayer2005.exe.
- Click on Setup.
- Go through the on-screen prompts to install HotDocs 2005.
- Install the Forms (you will need to repeat this step for each Form/Forms Pack you require from us):
- Search the Forms List for the Form or Forms Pack that you would like to use
- Download the hdi file to your desktop by clicking on the DOWNLOAD link next to the form/forms pack
- Depending on your version of Windows and your setup, you may either be prompted to download the forms, or they may open up automatically in HotDocs Player.
- If you had to download them to your desktop, open up HotDocs 2005, go to File >, Install Templates..., then find and select the forms hdi file, and click on Install.
2. I have installed HotDocs Player and the forms. How do I open HotDocs?- Go to Start >, Programs >, HotDocs 2005.
- Right click on HotDocs 2005 Player.
- Go to Send to >, Desktop.
- You should now have a link on your desktop. Double click on this NEW link.
- If the forms are there, that's it. Otherwise, left click on File and select CUK_FORMS.
- Now if you close HotDocs and reopen it, you should find that the forms are still there.
3. The forms print very slowly or print out blank. Is there a way around this?Printing using Adobe Acrobat has been recommended to get around this problem. This is done as follows:- Ensure that you have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer. If you are unsure, go to Start >, Programs >, Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If this does not exist you probably do not have it installed. If it is here, click on it to make sure that it opens up correctly. If it is not installed, visit http://www.adobe.com to download Acrobat reader (for free) - unfortunately, we are unable to advise on the installation of this software.
- By default HotDocs always asks if the user wants to print hpd files (using Acrobat or HotDocs Print functions) whenever you select print. If you do not get this message, open HotDocs, go to Tools >, Options, then go to Form Documents, and on the right hand side should be an option to Print pdf-based forms using. Select Always Ask.
- Now you should be set up - any forms that print blank or slowly can now be printed using Adobe Acrobat (just select this instead of the HotDocs Print Function whenever you wish to print these documents).
4. I get a General Decompression Error - what is wrong?Sometimes users will receive this error if the download (either forms or HotDocs Player) didn't complete, or is corrupt. In this instance, delete the old (corrupt/incomplete) file (or move it to a different folder), and try downloading again.

10. Why do I get a message saying that the forms are going to expire, and what do I do? The forms on this website currently automatically stop working around 2 or 3 months from the date they have been downloaded. Users will then need to return to this web site and download the required forms again. This process is in placed to ensure that all users are using the most valid and up to date forms.
11. The forms say they are going to/have expired, but I have just downloaded them. Why?If you have only just downloaded the forms, and they still say that they are about to expire (or have already expired), it could be because your old file has not been overwritten correctly by Windows. To find out if this is the case, try one of the following:- If you save the files to your PC manually try this:
- Right click on the file and go to Properties.
- On the box that pops up (about 2/3 of the way down) is a section labelled Created:.
- Check that this date is recent - if it is not, delete the hdi file, and redownload the forms from the website.
- Alternatively, if the files open up directly in HotDocs, you may wish to remove all of your temporary internet files as follows:
- Open up Internet Explorer
- Go to Tools >, Internet Options >, Delete Files...
12. When I double click on my desktop icon, it tries to reinstall the forms. When you install the forms in HotDocs, a shortcut to your desktop is NOT created - double clicking on this file means, to HotDocs, that you want to reinstall these forms. - Right click on HotDocs Player.
- Left click on Send To >, Desktop (create shortcut).

14. Recommended Web BrowserOur website is optimised for use with Internet Explorer version 6 with Javascript and images enabled to ensure full functionality.
15. What type of printer do you recommend? We strongly recommend an HP Laserjet printer with over 24MB of RAM. One of the reasons for this is that most inkjet printers lack the ability to print an entire form, whereas laserjet printers allow for wide margins and can print on a greater percentage of the paper. The extra RAM is sometimes needed for larger or more complex forms.
16. What is the HotDocs library? A HotDocs library is the collection of forms which you can see when you open HotDocs Player. Within this library you can open a document or form for assembly. A HotDocs library file has a .hdl extension. Please note that a library file only contains the library data - i.e. information on where forms and templates are located - it does not contain the forms and templates themselves.
17. Why do the forms have to expire? We never know when new forms are being released, and we need to do our best at keeping your forms up-to-date. We have found that, in the past, emails do not always work, and can annoy users - especially when it is a form that only a few people use. By expiring the forms every so often, we ensure that users have the latest forms.
18. I am having problems downloading - can I get the forms on CD?At this point in time, I am afraid we are unable to provide the forms on CD.
19. Do you provide any LSC forms? Why can't I find them?We have another website dedicated to LSC forms. This is a paid for service which also utilises HotDocs 2005. Should you require these forms, please visit our LSC Forms website at http://www.forms.capsoft.co.uk
20. Can the forms be integrated into my CMS/CRM system? If you are using a Case Management or Customer Relationship Management system and would like to integrate our forms in order that they work with your system, please contact Helen Sharpe, hs@capsform.co.uk in the first instance, to see how we can help.
21. How do I get my forms to properly fit to the page? When given the option to print in HotDocs, you should be given an option to print using Adobe Acrobat. Select this, then check the 'fit to page' box is selected - this ensures that the 0.5cm cut off at the bottom does not occur.
22. Can I spell check my form?Yes - try one of these:- Go to Tools >, Spell Checking,
- Press F7,
- or Click on the Spell Check button,
, in the top toolbar.
